PINK CITY

Jaipur is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharajah Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber after whom the city has been name. It has a population  of 3.1 million.   Jaipur is known as pink city of India.

In ancient time Jaipur region came under the Matsya Kingdom. The king consulted several books on architecture and architects before making the layout of Jaipur. Finally, under the guidance of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya (chief architect of the king) Jaipur came into existence on the classical principles of Vastu Shastra and the similar classical treatises.

The construction of the city started in 1727, it took around 4 years to complete the major places, roads and square. The city was divided into nine blocks, of which two contain the state buildings and palaces, with the remaining seven allotted to the public. Huge fortification walls were built, along with seven strong gates.
For the time architecture of the town was very advanced, and certainly the best in the Indian subcontinent.

In 1876, during the regime of Sawai Ram Singh, the whole city was painted in pink to welcome Edward, prince of Wales. Today, avenues remain painted in pink, giving Jaipur a distinctive appearance.


Temperature remains high throughout the year. In Jaipur there is a colony of 60 monkeys. Jaipur is the major tourist destination in India . In 2008 Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Survey, Jaipur was ranked the 7th best place in Asia.
The Presidential suite at the Raj palace hotel, billed at US$45000 per night, is listed 2nd on world's most expensive hotel suites compiled by CNN Go in 2012.




The places to be visited:-
Hawa Mahal, Amer fort, Jaigarh fort, Nahargarh Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Jal Mahal, Rambagh Palace, Birla temple and Raj Mandir Cinema.

Jaipur is known for its rich architecture, art and incredible culture. Jaipur has its own International airport, named on the city itself.
